A former motorcycle racing champion is now blazing a trail in business

Dennis Irvine is on the right track for success with his business. And as a former superbike racer he is used to leaving competitors in his wake.

Now Dennis, 42ish, sells superbikes and biking gear - and his business has just moved up a gear. The Dennis Irvine Superbike Centre has been on the go for the past 14 years - and 12 months ago moved to Marywell Aberdeen. It was a natural progression to make his passion his business.

He raced superbikes - 750cc upwards - from 1981 until bowing out with a serious neck injury in 1996 - though not before he had a Scottish Championship win under his belt.

"I was always fixing bikes for people and the shop side developed out of that." says Dennis, who dates his interest in motorbikes from the age of eight.

His showroom currently has a selection of machines from a 50cc scooter to a mighty Kawasaki 1300cc Upstairs there's a massive range of accessories for bike fans to choose from, including clothing, gloves and helmets.

As a former racer Dennis has a vast knowledge, and has "road-tested" a lot of the gear himself.

"People ask me for my views and I always try to be honest with them. I don't give customers the hard sell. But business is still doing well - or so my bookkeeper tells me." he jokes.

Dennis moved from his base in Bridge of Don into the city when his former business partnership broke up. He wanted to concentrate on bikes while his partner was more interested in pursuing the car side of the business.

The offroad racing has now taken off with KTM, motocross (KTM & myself have pulled a useful team together including my 8 year old son Daniel), motard is a load of fun, enduro bikes with a swap to motard wheels gives 2 bikes in one, all without the go to jail top speeds but missing none of the thrills.

November 2005 saw a move to Checkbar, Marywell 3 miles south of Aberdeen between Cove and the main Aberdeen - Stonehaven road.

June 2007 The motocross team has expanded now with 3 fast Mcleods, Hannah, Dean & Tara from Hatton, Frazer Norrie from Cumminston, Daniel Irvine & latest rider Scott Findlay(he usually answers the phone in the shop & looks after parts) from Forfar. All are competing at club & Scottish level, Scott is going to Sweden at the start of August in the Scottish youth team.
